Release notes
What changed, and when. Newest release first.
Bottle API
The Bottle API is the service behind every Bottle Blue product and behind the public API documented at docs.bottlebluellc.com. Every change a caller can observe gets a line here, in the same commit that makes the change. Newest release first.
1.6.0 - 2026-10-13
- Two labor market endpoints are available in beta. WARN layoff notices can be read by state, newest notice first, with an optional date window. H-1B labor condition applications can be read for a decision date.
- Both are paged the same way as the insider transactions endpoint: ask for a limit, and follow the key each response returns until it stops sending one.
- Every row carries the public body it came from, so the attribution travels with the data.
- Both responses are marked as beta in the body itself, so a client can tell without reading the documentation. Coverage grows while they are in beta, and a state or a date we do not hold yet returns an empty list rather than an error.
- The H-1B records carry no contact details for employer representatives or attorneys. Those columns are discarded when the data is collected and are never stored.
1.5.0 - 2026-10-08
- Enterprise can be bought directly from your account now, alongside Hobby and Pro. Its allowance is 100,000 requests a day and 1,000 a minute.
- An Enterprise subscription can be managed in the billing portal like any other, which matters if you hold more than one subscription with us.
- Volume above the Enterprise allowance is arranged as a custom plan, agreed in writing.
1.4.0 - 2026-10-08
- Insider filings can be narrowed to a single ticker symbol, so you can ask for one company instead of pulling a year and filtering it yourself.
- A symbol search can cover every year held, rather than one year at a time.
- Large results can be read a page at a time. A response with more to give returns a key, and sending that key back fetches the next page, so a busy year can be walked through instead of requested all at once. A key belongs to the search that produced it, so it will not resume a different symbol or year.
- Those three apply to insider filings. Sending them to the other disclosure datasets has no effect.
- The daily vibe is no longer cut short in the middle of a word.
1.3.0 - 2026-09-27
- You can now report a problem from inside the app instead of writing an email. The report carries the page you were on and the version you are running, so you do not have to describe any of it, and you get a reference back.
1.2.0 - 2026-09-26
- The signup and contact forms can now ask us for a one-time check before they submit. It happens by itself in the background, there is nothing to see and nothing to click, and it is the first step toward keeping automated submissions off the list.
1.1.0 - 2026-09-23
- Newsletter signups now record when and where you subscribed, so we can tell you what you signed up for and honour a change of mind.
- A mistyped address is refused at the point of signup instead of being stored and failing later.
- Subscribing again keeps your original signup date rather than resetting it.
- New subscribers receive a short confirmation email.
1.0.2 - 2026-09-20
- Educational resources now return only the content for the product you are asking about. Asking for a product whose library is part of what that app sells returns a clear refusal rather than an empty list, so you can tell the two apart.
1.0.1 - 2026-09-19
- When a password does not meet the requirements, creating an account or resetting a password now tells you so and says what the requirements are, instead of returning a generic error. Passwords need at least 8 characters and must include an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number, and a symbol.
- Starting a subscription and opening the billing portal are both faster.
1.0.0 - 2026-09-16
- First versioned release. The API has been live and serving customers for months; everything below was already running and is listed here so the history starts somewhere honest.
- Around 280 documented operations across finance and economics data, weather and air quality, unit conversion and calculators, AI helpers, and the shared building blocks the Bottle Blue apps are built on.
- Accounts, sign in, email verification, password reset, and API keys you can create, extend and revoke from the account dashboard.
- Subscriptions through Stripe, with Hobby, Pro and Enterprise plans, and a free tier that needs no card.
- Per plan rate limits. When you are over your limit the response tells you how long to wait before retrying, rather than leaving you to guess.
- Responses that can be cached now say which account they belong to, so signing out and signing in as someone else on the same browser always shows the right data.
- A seven day trial and paid in app plans reach the plant care endpoints behind AquaBotany's Learn section.
Data pipeline
The data pipeline is the collection layer behind Pocket Quant and behind the finance, market and government endpoints of the Bottle API. It gathers market and economic data on a schedule and builds the history those endpoints read. Every change a customer can observe gets a line here, in the same commit that makes the change. Newest release first.
1.4.4 - 2026-10-13
- Lobbying filings are collected from the publisher's current address. The address in use before this release had been retired and was forwarding our requests on, so the filings themselves were unaffected. This removes our reliance on that forwarding staying in place.
- Filings posted during a short interruption at the publisher earlier this month were collected once it ended, so the record for those days is complete.
1.4.3 - 2026-10-12
- The weekly North America rig count is collected again. The publisher's site began turning our collector away on 10 October, so the count for the week of 9 October was not recorded on time. It is recorded when this release is deployed, and collection continues weekly from there.
- A week that cannot be collected on its usual day is now retried on the two days after, and any recent week found missing is filled in from the publisher's own history, with the week-over-week change it had at the time.
1.4.2 - 2026-10-10
- Government contract records now keep every award a company receives on the same day, including several placed together for the same item at the same value. Where a group like that arrived at once only one of them was kept, so a day's figure could understate what a company was actually awarded.
1.4.1 - 2026-10-09
- If a daily rebuild cannot read part of the disclosure record, the previous day's rankings are now kept instead of being replaced by an incomplete set. A rebuild either has everything it needs or it changes nothing, so a figure on the board is always computed from the whole of what we hold.
1.4.0 - 2026-10-09
- A politician's portfolio now brings together every disclosure that belongs to them, so each member appears once on the leaderboard. Filings do not spell a name consistently, and where the same person was filed under more than one spelling they previously held more than one partial record, each ranked on part of their history. Returns, totals and trade counts are now computed from the whole of a member's disclosed history.
- Portfolio and leaderboard records now carry a stable identifier for the member alongside their name, so a caller can follow one person across builds without matching on spelling. It is left out where a member cannot be identified from published public records, rather than guessed at.
1.3.0 - 2026-10-08
- Insider transaction coverage is now every Form 4 the SEC publishes each day, instead of a sample of the most recent filings. In practice that is several hundred transactions a business day where it used to be around twenty, so a given company's filings are far more likely to be there.
- The first few collections after this change also fill in the preceding two weeks, so the history reaches back further than the day it went live.
1.2.1 - 2026-10-07
- Insider transaction records now name the security that was transacted. Not every filing covers common stock, so this is what tells a share trade apart from one in another kind of instrument.
1.2.0 - 2026-10-03
- Insider transaction records now show whether shares were acquired or disposed of.
- Insider transaction records are more complete.
1.1.0 - 2026-10-03
- Congressional trade records now include the filer's political party. Party affiliation is not part of a congressional disclosure filing, so it is matched from a published, public-domain roster of members of Congress and left blank wherever it cannot be established - including for members who have changed party, where there is no single correct answer to give.
- The weekly congressional trades summary now names every party in full, Independent and Libertarian included. Previously only Democrat and Republican were spelled out and every other affiliation read as "Other".
1.0.0 - 2026-09-16
- First versioned release. The pipeline has been collecting daily for months; everything below was already running and is listed here so the history starts somewhere honest.
- Daily market coverage: equities and indices, bonds and yields, commodities, crypto, interest rates and a broad set of economic series.
- Congressional and senate trading disclosures, and lobbying filings, refreshed on a schedule.
- Price history backfilled to 2000 for every tracked instrument and series, so the charts and comparisons in Pocket Quant have real history behind them rather than only the days since launch.
- A daily market read on SPY built from a full matrix of technical indicators, not a restatement of the day's close.
- Fire service, EMS and gardening headline feeds, which are what Apparatus Ready's News section and AquaBotany's reading list are built on.
- Distinct quarterly lobbying filings are kept distinct. Filings that shared a client and a registrant used to collapse into a single row and undercount the quarter.
This documentation site
This site is the public reference for the Bottle API. Every user-visible change gets a line here, in the same commit that makes the change. Newest release first.
1.8.0 - 2026-10-13
- Two endpoints are newly documented, both in beta: WARN layoff notices by state, and H-1B labor condition applications by decision date. Each sets out its parameters, how to page it, and what a row carries.
- The endpoint count in the header now reads 281.
- Long endpoint descriptions are broken into paragraphs rather than running as one block of text. No wording changed.
- Description text now wraps at the same width as the text beneath it. The first paragraph of an endpoint used to stop about two thirds of the way across the page while everything under it ran the full width, which read as though it had been cut short.
- There is more room between one endpoint and the next, and the dividing line now sits between them instead of tight under the text above it.
- Group headings had two dividing lines stacked above them. There is one.
1.7.0 - 2026-10-10
- The politician leaderboard and portfolio endpoints now document bioguide_id, a member's identifier in the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress. It lets you join a row to outside congressional data instead of matching on a name, which public filings spell inconsistently for the same person.
- The reference is explicit that the field is optional and that the key is left out rather than sent empty when there is no identifier, so a caller knows to test for its presence. Two cases are named: the president, who has no entry in a directory of Congress, and the occasional row where a filing's spelling of a name cannot be matched to exactly one member.
- It also states that one identifier never appears on two rows of the same board, so it is safe to use as a key.
1.6.4 - 2026-10-08
- The reference now loads only the endpoints it documents for you. Sections meant for Bottle Blue LLC's own use are kept out of the page data until they are asked for, so the public reference is just the public API.
- Two links in the Linking and Organizations sections pointed at sections that are not shown publicly, so clicking them did nothing. They are plain text now.
1.6.3 - 2026-10-08
- Attribution says plainly that keeping a standing copy of the data, and handing it onward to your users through a machine-readable interface, are included in the Enterprise plan and governed by the Terms of Use, with nothing separate to sign.
1.6.2 - 2026-10-08
- The documented example for the plans endpoint matches what the endpoint actually returns for Enterprise: a monthly and an annual price, and the Stripe price ids, rather than a contact address.
1.6.1 - 2026-10-08
- The note about links and deleted records says the useful thing plainly: nothing checks a reference against its target, so if the target is gone, following the reference returns a 404 and you can remove the link yourself.
1.6.0 - 2026-10-08
- Enterprise is self-serve: buy it alongside Hobby and Pro from your account, and your key unlocks the data endpoints straight away.
- Errors and rate limits states the Enterprise allowance as what it is, 100,000 requests a day and 1,000 a minute. Neither figure has changed.
- The same table names the Custom plan, which is how volume and rate limits are set above the Enterprise allowance, by contract and in writing.
- Attribution splits apart two things that used to be one sentence. Buying Enterprise is self-serve, while the written agreement covering a standing copy of the data, and handing it onward to your users through a machine-readable interface, is still arranged by email.
- The uptime figure on the introduction now reads as a service target, which is what it has always been. It is what we aim for rather than a service level agreement, and the Terms of Use remain the place that says what we undertake.
1.5.0 - 2026-10-08
- The government dataset reference documents three more query parameters, all of them for the insiders dataset. `ticker` returns just one symbol's filings, `startKey` pages through a large result a page at a time, and `allYears` searches every stored year rather than one.
- The same table now states what `limit` accepts, 1 to 500, and that the insiders dataset returns 100 rows when you do not ask for a number.
- A new note explains how to page the insiders dataset: follow `nextKey` until `truncated` comes back false, and treat the key as an opaque string, because one taken from a different symbol or year will be refused.
- Each of the three is marked as applying to the insiders dataset only. The other datasets accept the parameters and ignore them, which is worth knowing before you rely on one to filter.
- The Endpoints figure on the landing page reads 280 again.
1.4.0 - 2026-10-02
- New section in the reference: Attribution. It states the one line we ask you to display, "Powered by Bottle API", linked to bottleapi.com, and where it has to appear. There is an HTML snippet to copy.
- The same section says what you may do with the data. Commercial use inside your own product is included on every paid plan: build on the API, charge for your product, take paying subscribers, and distribute or resell it. Enterprise covers bulk access, caching and mirroring, and reselling API access itself.
- Attribution is now linked from the sidebar, under "Get started".
1.3.2 - 2026-09-27
- The table of API hosts and the note about which languages the examples use have been taken off the introduction. The same information is on every endpoint further down the page, where you need it.
1.3.1 - 2026-09-27
- The line under "What are you building?" no longer quotes a total number of endpoints. It counted a smaller set than the figure at the top of the page, so the two read as though one of them was wrong. The count on each card is unchanged.
- That section now reads properly on a phone. It was laid out with the spacing and type sizes meant for a desktop, so it took up half again as much room as it needed to.
- The cards also sat four across on a wide screen, which left a half empty row underneath. They now sit three across, so the rows are even.
1.3.0 - 2026-09-26
- New at the top of the page: "What are you building?". Pick one of six areas and the reference narrows to just that part of the API. The page goes from every endpoint at once to only the ones you asked about, and the sidebar filters with it.
- A narrowed view now has its own web address. You can send somebody a link to one area of the reference, bookmark it, and the back button returns you to where you were.
- Fixed five links at the end of the Quickstart. "Authentication details", "Errors and rate limits", "Market data", "Government data" and "Weather and environment" did nothing when clicked. They now take you to the right place, and they work even if you have narrowed the page to something else first.
- Corrected two product names throughout the reference. It is PocketQuant, one word, and Aqua Botany, two words.
1.2.0 - 2026-09-24
- The newsletter signup has moved out of the footer into its own section just above it, so it is easier to find and easier to read.
1.1.1 - 2026-09-23
- The message shown after signing up no longer asks you to confirm. Nothing needs confirming: a welcome email simply arrives.
1.1.0 - 2026-09-23
- You can now sign up for the Bottle Blue newsletter from the footer, and on some pages from a small prompt that appears once and stays dismissed if you close it. Occasional updates about what we are building. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe.
1.0.0 - 2026-09-20
- This site is out of beta. The reference has been complete and in daily use for some time, and the version a reader quotes in a bug report should say so.
- The Bottle API mark now sits at the top of the navigation as well as in the footer. Both ends of the page used different artwork, so the site introduced itself one way at the top and another at the bottom.
1.0.0-beta.5 - 2026-09-19
- Corrects the Bottle API version shown in the footer. It read 1.1.0 for under an hour; the correct number is 1.0.1, because that release fixed behaviour rather than adding any.
1.0.0-beta.4 - 2026-09-19
- The reference for creating an account and resetting a password now states the password requirements, and shows the response you get when a password does not meet them.
- The footer shows the new Bottle API version.
1.0.0-beta.3 - 2026-09-19
- No change to the documentation. This release only adds checks behind the scenes so the footer, including the notice about which addresses our email comes from, cannot be changed by accident.
1.0.0-beta.2 - 2026-09-16
- You can now reach Bottle Blue on X and Bluesky from the footer, alongside the LinkedIn, Instagram and GitHub links that were already there.
- Search engines are now told which social accounts belong to the company, and the company is now described with its own logo here rather than this site's.
1.0.0-beta.1 - 2026-09-16
- First versioned build. The site has been live for months; everything below was already shipped and is listed here so the history starts somewhere honest.
- The full reference for around 280 operations, every one with a request example in curl, Python, JavaScript and TypeScript, and a real response body.
- Search across every endpoint, filters by method and category, and a sidebar that tracks where you are on the page.
- Category landing pages for the larger areas of the API, each one a complete page in its own right rather than the reference with a filter applied.
- The reference is now in the page that the server sends, so it can be read without running JavaScript and it can be found in a search engine.
- A layout built for a phone: a category bar, a slide-in navigation menu, and code blocks that scroll on their own instead of stretching the page.
- The footer shows which build you are on, along with the versions of the API and the data pipeline behind it, and links to this page.
